Synopsis-Lucie ́ Manette fallen in love with Charles Dar nay who returned on the same boat from France in which Lucie brought her father, Dr. Manette, Just freed from 18 years in the Paris Bastilie by the Jacquerie in 1784. She becomes friends with Sydney Carton, drinking. cynical assistant the lawyer, Struver, who gets Daring Freed of a treason charge instigated by Darnay's uncle, the Marquis de St. Evremonde. Carton, on the point of declaring his love for Lucle, hears from her own lips that she ta to marry Darnay. Darnay learns that it was his uncle who had had Dr. Manette imprisoned in the Bastille and confesses that fact to him. The Doctor does not hold it against him. Lucie and Darnay are.mar- ried while Carton drinks himself blind drunk, and the Marquis is murdered in bed in his French chateau.
