TIN STOCKS' SHORTAGE

ACTION TO REMEDY LONDON SITUATION

London, Mar. 12. -

The Colonial Office, in reply to the recent representations of the London metal market regarding the shortage. of tin stocks, remarks that since only two of the four signatory countries of the International agreement are British, the fixation of quotas is out- side the power of the Secretary of State, but the Chairman of the Com- mitice has given an assurance that the Committee will in no wise depart from the intention to increase stocka at the earliest moment.

In view of the time lag between by tha the operation of the quota producing countries, and the date when the resulting tin is nvaliable, connuners of 90 per cent of the quota during the first quarter of 1980 will Influence supplies during the next two or three months.--Reuter.
