We will have to exercise patience for about ten months or so before we can start discussing the prospects of 1937 Derby, but, in the meanwhile, congratulations are due to Sir Victor Sassoon, Bt., for winning the Hong- kong Derby with Honeymoon Eve ably ridden by Mr. V. V. Needa.

The outstanding feature of last Saturday's Meeting under the auspices of the Hongkong Jockey Club was the dis appointing display of Vixen Tor (Mr. Proulx), the second fa- vourite, who failed to get a place out of a field of five in the Australian Ponies Champions.

TRYING TO "PURIFY" FOOTBALL

RIDDING IT OF COMMERCIAL INFLUENCE

(By. John Bell)

Mr. Bendle Moore, like a great many people, is perturbed about football. He shares the popular view that the game has become commercialined to a dangerous ex- tent, but Mr. Moore, happening to be Chairman of the Derby County Club can, unlike most people, get his voice beard once every year.

It is on the occasion of the annual meeting of Football League that we Boe Mr. Moore's views crystallised into one big idea for the improvement of the game.

Savo

that his proposal never differs, that it is always turned down, and that it has something to do with onlarging the clubs possibilities of promation and relegation, the public know very little of what Mr. Moore is about.

The broad outline of his motivo has never attracted public attention, and its constant reiteration may oven have bred contempt. Certainly it is no longer the football flower, which Mr. Moore intended it to be. More nearly it is a weed to be expected nach year, only because there is no way of killing it.

In A few months there will be another meeting of the Football Loaguo, and with it presumably Mr. Moore and his untouched plan.
