REPORT BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
At the annual general meeting of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation on February 22, the Directors will submit, the following general statement of the affairs of the Bank, and balance sheet for the year ending December 31, 1936.
The net profits for the year, to gether with $3,204,701.30, balance brought forward from last account, after paying all charges, deducting Interest pald and due, and making provision for bad and doubtful
accounts and contingencies, amount to $15,383,543.05.
The Directors recommend writing off Bank Promisos Account the sum of $1,000,000, in addition to a transfer already
made from allocations at- cumulated in previous years for a contingency which has now becomo:
non-existent.
After doducting $1,000,000, the Interim Dividend of £2.10.0 per share, paid on 12th August last, viz £400,000 @ 2/24-$3,022,041.51, and remuneration to Directors, there remains for appropriation $10,000,- 800.03, out of which the Directors recommend the payment of a Final Divident of £3 per Share, viz., £480,- 000 which, at 1/3%, the rate of the
