Amid the beating of war drums, a new decree ordering further mobiling- tion throughout the country was read in the Palace to-day.

It is unofficially estimated that over 100,000 men will be affected by the Emperor's decree ordering further mobilisation throughout Ethiopia.

King Edward VIII's first acts seem symbolic of a new order of monarchy. After flying to London from Sandringham, thus becoming the first king to fly, he ordered the Sandringham clocks set correctly. They have been half an hour fast ever since King Edward VII was chagrined because he was late for an appoint- ment and advanced them all to prevent any recurrence of this embarrassment.

King Edward's face bear marks of grief at the death of his father, but he faced the ordeals of cere- monials with a calm control.

He was formally proclaimed Edward VIII by the Privy Council at an age-old ceremony, took the oath to respect the Church of Scotland, and signed a proclama- tion preserving the continuity of the office of his Ministers.
