A singular feature of the recent stranding off the const of South ・・ Africa: a photograph of a spot where the whales had charged jagged rocks, receiving cruel wounds.It has been suggested that the strand- ing may have been due to sand, stirred up, in the water by a gale, irritating the whales' membranes, but a similar explanation stranding on the East Coast of Great Britain.

The Italian air raid on Dessyo on December 6 was reported rocently: here we give photographs taken at the time. A strongly wo rded protest was sent to Italy by Sweden regarding the recent bombing of the hospital at Dessye. Some scores of victims were killed or wounded, the instrument room of the hospital,

two wards, and the surgical tent of No. 2 dressing station destroyed by bomba, and tho panexo bit. The photograph shows an outlying part of the hospital burning after being hit by an incendiary bomb: a rald in which there were scores of cast alties, many of them Abyssinian wounded lying in hospital.
