GRETA GARBO STILL REIGNS AS QUEEN OF ALL FILMLAND

ALL the other stars gleam palely in the light of Greta Garbo. In her latest picture she reasserts her lonely pre-eminence ns Queen of the Screen.

That her unique personality is a great factor in her success cannot be dented, "but the skill with part she-is-playing is undeniable,

Having submerged herself in the character of Tolstoy's tragic heroline, she invests it with an air of inevitability that grips one from the moment when she comes smiling into the picture and looks into the face of her prospective lover, Frederic March.

The story of the unfaithful wife of the freezingly precizē Rússlan grandes is well-koawn. Mies Garbo heightens its emotional scenes without a hint of effect,

Freddie Bartholomew makes the boy a charming little fellow, even if some of his lines seem stiltedly unnatural.
