Shanghai Hockey Trials Disappointing
LADIES' LACK OF COHESION Searching For Interport XI
Shanghai, Jan. 7.
There is only one result to be expected if players who have never played together are picked to represent two sities; con- fusion and misunderstanding! And that was what happened yesterday when another group of women hockey stars, selected from various clubs, were given an opportunity of displaying their experience and prowess in hockey before a number of officials of the committee and a fair sized crowd at the race course, a second of a series of trials to be held before the final selection, says the Shanghai Times.
Though the game was faster than that of the previous day; the complete lack of cohesion of any description and the pernicious tendency of the players to cluster together so as to get into each other's way, were the chief factors that greatly assisted in making the game ragged and 10- Interesting.
It must be admitted that as
in- lividuals they all can play hockey, but tf Hongkong are to be beaten, they must learn to keep to their respective positions and give more attention to passing technique which they con- spicuously lack. Many Ane oppor tunities which were wasted could have been converted into useful points if the forwards could only have been

· BLUES DEFEATED The Yellows however defeated the Blues by 2-1 all the goals being scored in rat session.
The line up of the teams was as follows:
Yellows:-Minnes G. Ephgrave; Frances Bompko, Nora Seaborn;. V. Beim, Pitan Petlgura, Debby Bloom- field; M. Thompson, S. Kermani, M. Sheridan, D. Eardley, E. Little
Blues: E. Scidal; Ester Bloom. field. E. Victal; C. Getz, Hilde Gun- ther, Peggle Silva; Ursula Berg, Jean Gilchrist, A. Greiner, L. Schmidt, and Q. Hochmann.
Of the two keepers G. Ephgrave for the Yellows was a little more steady and reliable, both having had little chance to give any kind of a display; of backs, E. Bloomfield

Greiner and L. Schmidt were domin- ant for the Blues.
After 16 minates of midfield plny, M. Sheridan slipped through the Blue defence and took a drive at goal. The ball struck the post and rebound- ed, and before the backs, could re cover, the same player followed up and flicked the ball into a wide open goul.

The Yellows applied pressure, but excessive eagerness on the part of: the forward lino led to constant in- fringement of the offside rule. Mias Amanda Callaco was the next scorer when she netted with the goalkeeper unplaced.
