"CAPTAIN" FOSTER REVIEWS RACING SEASON Exceedingly Successful Year Despite Depression
CRICKET NOTES

ALL-IMPORTANT
MATCH
OF THE SEASON
CHAMPIONS PLAY I.R.C.
ODDS SLIGHTLY IN FAVOUR
OF VISITORS
To-morrow will be played what I regard as the key match of the Senior League so far as can be foreseen at present. The H.K.C.C. go down to Sookunpoo to play the Indians and it should be a most interesting match.
Were the match at the Hongkongj Cricket Club ground I should expect the Club to have a shade the better of the game, as I have noticed that mu of the L.R.C. do not give of their hul on that ground. I do not-of course refer to Pereira, Mudnr, or Minu but to some of the younger-or] perhaps I should say less experienced playera,
I do hope and trust this will not be construed to mean that I am belittling or depreciating some of the Indian players Nearly all cricketers inve grounds they like and gounda they don't like and possibly quite wrongly I have formed the opinion that I have; stated above.
On the other hand, I don't think the Club players particularly like the I.R.C
ground, and I fancy there is vory little in it between the two sides. One thing is absolutely certain and that in that the Club will have to turn: out their strongest sida to win. If the two Pearce's, Dunkley, Redmond, Duckitt, H. Owen Hughes and Price all turn out, there is the
ing of very strong tenni.

The Hongkong jockey Club closed their Sea- son last Saturday and it must be admitted that in view of the depression, they have had a most successful racing year. There were actually-winning stakes list for Australian including the Annual Meeting-21 days of rac- ing and 196 events were keenly contested. Mr. Clerk of the Weather was not too kind on two WINNERS OF or three occasions, but the rest of the Meetings was held under idoal atmospheric conditions and the attendance improved towards the end of the
season.

The introduction of jackey allow ance was responsible for some really good dividends being paid out in the second ball and the Stewards enn be congratulated adopting this.
on There is no denying that hereafter the 5 lb, jockey allowance in the handicap events will be fully taken advantage of, nni novicns will undoubtedly have better mounts. There is an old say
ng "Good ponies make good Jockeys." Mr. M. T. Johnson, who presided at the half-yearly General Meeting of the Hongkong Jockey Club on Novem ber 28, said that the object of the allowance was to encourage
novice jockeys and give them more op- portunity to ride, in, the open handicap Inces, it can be said, without kny novices fear of contradiction, that

he started only three times as against Rose Queen's fourteen and King's Jubilee's eleven outings. Rose Quech won two Cups for the owner, Mr. Eu Tong-sen, one presented by the American Club and the other by the St. George's Society, Herod won

Mr. Leo Frost was soon at his best in the Twelfth Extra Meeting held on November 10, when he scored 100% by registering four wins on Snowy Ilver Afistake Bay, Cold Morning and Pride of Tsingtao, and was placed on Pontiac Bay, King's Justice and Seventeenth of Septembar, At the same Meeting, Mr. G. Roza did a "hat trick" on King's Jubilec, King's; Warden and Wadebridge,
Although we lost Mr. Johnnie Heard who left hero before Easton for England, Mr. Ralph returned to the saddle at the last Meeting before the recess and I do not think requires any further introduction.
During the year Messrs. GR. Cheape, Fung Kwok Wa, R. M. Wood, and S. L. Yuen had the satisfaction to break their "ducks" and Mr. Tang Manwa will, at future meetings, have black letters to his name on the Telegraph Board. The introduction of Jockey allowance was responsible for Mr. Tang's three wins on Soldier of Peace, The Rain Gauge and Locksley Hall to put him out of th novices and Mosers. Choy Wing H. and F. F.
