A summons for $8,68 as wages due for work prior to his dismissal, and one month's wages in lieu of notice, was brought by Chilu Pat-ki against Wong Sai-ho, manager of the Want Nam Printing Press, beforo Mr. Q. A. A. Mucfadyen at 'the Central Magis- | tracy yesterday afternoon.

Defendant was represented by Mr. C. D'Alınada e Castro, who stated that complainant wax engaged at the Printing Press as a stone polisher. On the engagement of an employee ke was shown a frame on which was written all the rules and regulations

On October 20 complainant negli gently broke a printing stone valued at $60. He was reprimanded by the assistant manager of the firm, and replied that if he were given his wages he would leave' immediately. Thero was no question of complainant having been dismissed. Witness went to the Secretariat for Chinese Affairs and complained, and the matter was then taken to Court.

Cross-examined by Mr. D'Almada, witness said that the stone was a large one and should have been carri ed by two men, but as he was the only person assigned to the task he had to carry it alone: Help could only be obtained under instructions of the head workman, Lau Tat-hi.

In his evidence, Lau Tai-hl stated that he witnessed complainant break the stone. He agreed that two men

should have carried a stone of that size, and stated that complainant could have obtained assistance if he
