Asmara, Nov. 5.

The Italian columns have reached Agula, sixteen miles north of Makale, which was fixed as the meeting place of the attacking forces. Three columns con- verged on Agula following the advance ordered yester- day, and during a violent thunderstorm and in driving rain, the troops made their way into the old Ethiopian town. They were soaked to the skin.

The hillsides surrounding the town were formed to torrents and the passage of the army's transport over the rough roads was most difficult.

Seven thousand mules and donkeys and camels were needed to carry up the rations to the advanced positions and hundreds of lorries further back brought up supplies from the bases.

Commenting on the Chinese silver situation, Mr. Cameron Forbes, leader of the recent United States economic mission to China, said to-day that "a written opinion of a group of Chinese bankers, submitted to the Economic Mission, predicted the Chinese Government's nationalisation of silver."

The Chinese bankers, he said, pointed out that while the United States and others, notably Japan, found it to their own interest to devaluate their currencies, through no action on the part of China and against her own desires, this step on the part of the United States, had resulted in a sharp increase in the value of Chinese currency. In other words, China had had forced upon her a course directly opposite to that taken by the other nations, presumably in their own interests.

The Economic Mission sees many opportunities for intelligent American co-operation with China, to assist her in rehabilitating her finances and industries. United Press.
