Capt. Macmillan Tells How It
Might Have Been Averted ON
N an October Sunday five years ago the world was appalled to learn that the British airship R 101 had crashed in flames in France with the loss of 48 lives.
Now for the first time the story is told of doubts during the last few hours before the airship was due to leave Cardington for India-the story of Sir W. Sefton Braneker, the Director of Civil Aviation, of whom it is declared:
"If the decision had rested with him whether the R 101 should have left, the disaster might have been averted." The full story is told in a book "Softon Brancker" by Captain Norman Macmillan, president of the National League of Air-
men.
