The "Com monwealth and Southern Corporation earned $5.48 per Preferred share for the year ended August 11, against $4.50 during the previous United Air Lines carried 21,122 sengers during August, an increase of per cent, above the passengers tenrried in July and 46 per cent. above those carried in August Inst year. Business (ailures during the week amounted to 184, compared with 105 failures the previous week. Denund deposits during the past week total- ted $16,222,000,000 us compared with |$16,111,000,000 the previous week.

New York and Clitcago commodity reports received through Messrs. Swan, Culbertson and Fritz:

Catton: Should trade demand sub- side by the time that, the heavy crop movement sturts, it would afford a better buying opportunity. The long range outlook in higher. Hedging is light, whilst the prosent demand for

"pot" eatton is katisfactory. The

Whent: The market is two-sided, but sentiment is bullish.

Silk: There is further talk that the price will touch $2.
