The United States has tight- ened its aerial grip on the Pacific Ocean with the first step toward establishment of what may be a series of powerful air bases atretching from the Pacific coast to Guam.

If it proves successful in the tests to be made before the middio. of next year, it will revolutionise long-distance flying and bring; nearer the possibility of a regular transatlantic service.
