The strongest lead is the king JALCUTTA from the ace, king and one or more CANTO small cards as it is an almost cer- tain trick winner and gives an opportunity of looking at the dum my and deciding which is the best [HAITHONG attack. The next best load is the HAMBURG king from the king, queen. The BANKOW lead of a king shows partner that HARBIN you hold either a king, queen com- bination, or an ace, king and small card combination. The lead of an ace against a sult declaration denies the king unless it is immediately followed with the king which would now deny any more cards of that auit.

When an ace is opened that suit generally contains at least three more cards of that suit. If you receive an encouraging card from partner continue with your next hlyheat card of that sult. If you were to play the ace and then fol low with the deuce, you would tell your partner you were now out of that suit.

While there is no such a ward as "never" in bridge, we are almost forced to say never underlead an ace. Occasionally an expert can make this play, but in the long run it will prove a trick loser.
