DEFEAT FOR WOMEN'S LAWN TENNIS TITLE HOLDER
ENGLAND'S BAD DAY
AT WIMBLEDON
Australian Girl's Attack Beats Dorothy Round
(By H. S. Scrivener)
London, July 3.
The four survivors in the men's singles championship were given a rest from singles play at Wimbledon yester- day, and I daresay they were very glad of it after toiling in Monday's heat. The eight women who were left in the other singles championship accordingly had the field to themselves. Several of them, true to feminine tradition, caused us to wonder what was going to happen next on several occasions, and on the whole I think that our curio- sity was excited oftener than our admiration.
The neusation of the day was, of| Courno, the defeat of the reigning champion, Miss Round. Her epn queror, Miss Hartigan, Australia's Coding Lady, reached the semi-final last year, and in a more finished player now Ear atte then. She possessen
