Max Baer, film star and playboy of the ring; laughed and clowned his way lightheartedly to the heavy- weight crown, which he held for just a year.
Braddock, known as the "Jersey" Thunderbolt," had to surmount numerous obstacles in his climb to the top of the fistic ladder.
Braddock was considered the best long shot challenger for 43 years. He was superbly trained and con- fident that he had the stamina to last the full distance.
Baer has been a glamorous, còur- ageous, mischievous, temperamental and emotional figure. He likes go- ing to night clubs, spends money like water, hates training, and go- ing to bed early and doing what he is told. He la as strong as the oxen he often used to pole-axe and in- tersperses his clowning in the ring with terrific punches.
