FRIENDSHIP WITH ANIMALS

MYSTIC BOND

Lord Lonadale, Britain's sport- ing Peer, who has a famous “way with him" when dealing with anf- mals, revealed some of the secreta of how to get on with lions and tigers and other rather formidable friends.

He was commenting on a repert from America that Mr. Clyde Beat. ty, the animal trainer, is planning to present his lion, tiger, and pan- ther act in London. Mr. Beatty is reported to have said:-"I did not dare to take my net to London be- eause I was told that the Royal Humane Society in England will not allow the use of the whip and gun in the cage. Recently Lord Lonsdale anw my act and said he believed things could be arranged I came to London, so I am plan- aing a visit."

Lord Lonsdale, who sat surround- ed by his dogs that seem to under- stand every word he says to them, shook his head over Mr. Beatty's statement.

"I have not been to America for about 25 years," he told a reporter. "and I have never seen this man's act. Even if I had been in Amer- len, unless I knew where the Hon and come from and its upbringing -whether it had been bred in cap ivity or not-I should certainly not have gone near it, because I do not like these acts.

NEW TREATMENT DISCOVERED

DRINK MORE MILK

Atlantic City, NJ., June 14.

A disease generally blamed on the fast tempo and high tension of modern life is being combatted with a successful treatment, Dr. Asher Winkelstein of Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York, toid the American Medical Society in a discussion of stomach ulcers.

Dr. Winkelstein, chief of the hospital's gastro-intestinal clinic, said that over 150 victims of stomach ulcers had been cured by the new method during the last four years. In a series of 42 cases treated over a period of 22 months, the ulcers returned in only one

Stomach ulcers constitute one of the diseases of modern civilisation. Physicians have been worried over the fact that they seem to be on the increase.

The new treatment devised by Dr. Winkelstein is known as the "continuous milk drip treatment." The patient swallows a rubber tubo about one-eighth of an inch in diameter. This tube ends in a small metal capsule which is per- foruted.

Milk, to each quart of which has been added a teaspoonful of bicar- bonate of sola, is allowed to drip into the stoniach through the tube at the rate of 30 drops a minute. This continues day and night, the patient receiving three quarts of

milk and three spoons of bicarbon- ate of soda in the 24 hours. In most cases, the treatment is con- tinued for three weeks.

Dr. Winkelstein said that the

patients do not find the treatment milk a day, he said, is ample nour-
