BRITISH ICELAND RUMOUR

EMPHATIC DENIAL BY PREMIER

"LUDICROUS AND IMPOSSIBLE”

Recently the somewhat startling statement appeared in the Prens that Iceland desired to come under the British fing. This was contra- dicted following a vigorous denial broadcast from Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland.

The presence in Edinburgh of the Prime Minister of Iceland, Herr Hermann Jonasson, present- ed an opportunity of shedding some light upon a subject which enused widespread interest. The Prime Minister is on board the Bruarfoss, which travels between Copenhagen and Iceland, always stopping at Leith for a day and a night.

The Prime Minister received In press representative in his state room 011 the Brnarfoss. Herr Jonasson is a striking figure of typical Norse type--tall and broad, fair skinned, with keen blue eyes, and although as yet below the age of 40, is at the head of the Icelandic Parliament.
