Many applications for licences to search for petróleum in Britain are expected to be made under the regulations which have been framed under the Petroleum Pro- duction Act, 1934. The regula-' tions have been laid on the tables of both Houses of Parliament, and will become effective, if not dis- approved, within 28 days.

Provision is made by the re- gulations for two kinds of licence (1) prospecting and (2) mining. The prospecting licence hu period of three years, which may be extended year by year to a maximum period of five years. The mining licence is for a term of 50 years, which may be extend- ed to a maximum of 75 years.
