London, June 12.
The basis of the reported Anglo- German naval agreement is that The 35 per cent, of the British strength claimed by Germany. will apply to each ship entegory separately, it is stated here.
Germany's naval strength will remain, constant in this ratio to Grent Britain's so that the in-
crease of the strength of any other naval power. than Britain) will not be followed by an in- crease in Germany's tonnage.
This proposal is said to have been accepted by Great Britain provided that no other power ignatory to the Treaty of Ver- sailles objects.
It is thought likely that italy will agree. French agreement, on principle, is regarded as prob- able, though Franco may make re- servations on a number of points, ¦
WASHINGTON REPLIES
Washington, June 12, Replying to the message from the British Government with re- gard to the progress of the Anglo- German naval conversations, the United States Government has expressed the sincere hope that the result of the parley will lead to a satisfactory salution. The United States hopes that the conversations will lead to a.com-
viewpoint on the part of leading European naval powers with regard to a mutually ac- ceptable proportional standard for their fleets.
Such an agreemont, it is felt here, would contribute to general agreement amongst prin- cipal naval powers of the world. for limitations and reductions of armaments, in line with the Lon- don and Washington Treaties.- Reuter Special.

FEAR OF SUDDEN ATTACK
CAUSES PEIPING PANIC
FOREIGN TROOPS EXPECTED TO QUIT DANGER ZONE
Renter reports General Ho Ying-ching leaving Peiping during the night of June 12, travelling by train to Nanking to consult the Government concerning the fresh pressure being put upon the Chinese by Japan. He travelled by the Peiping- Hankow Railway to avoid Tientsin.'
High officials in Peiping, interviewed by Reuter, declare he is returning with- in a few days. They are extremely gloomy, declaring it seems certain that China is facing the most serious crisis since the Japanese swept against the Chinese city in Shanghai.
United Press, on the contrary, reports that Major Tan Takahashi, Japanese Military Attache at Peiping, denies that any new demands have been made upon China; nor has any protest been lodged with the Chinese Government by Japan, he adds.
This news agency, agrees that General Ho Ying-ching has left for Nanking, but quotes a "spokesman of the War Ministry" as saying that no fresh Japanese de- mands have been received in Peiping.
