GERMANY OFFERS AIR PACT
GESTURE WELCOMED
IN BRITAIN
FIVE POWER CONFERENCE --
London, May 30.
The submission of Germany's ) draft plan for an Air Pact is wel- comed in British diplomatle circles as a definite gesture of goodwill and co-operation.
Germany is known to be in communication with France, Italy' and Belgium; arid meanwhile those Governments have also been preparing schemes, the French draft having already been received by the Foreign Ofice.
now
The possiblity of a conference between the five Powers is envisaged, though some prelimin- ary diplomatle conversations will doubtless be necessary.-Reuter.
HIS MAJESTY'S BIRTHDAY
CEREMONIALS FOR MONDAY
London, May 30, His Majesty the King will cele- brate his 70th birthday on Monday, and in the morning will attend the picturesque and impressive ceremonial of the Trooping of the Colours by the Guards Battalions which every June 3 attracts frent crowds of spectators to the Horse Guards Parade.
This year there will be an opport- unity of purchasing in the streets the birthday emblems in aid of King's Silver Jubilee Trust. This fund is a personal gift of the na- tion to His Majesty, who has de- cided that it should be devoted to the "welfare of the rising genera tion".
The Fund will not start any new organisation, but will help existing ones which are concerned with the youth movement of the nation England, Scotland, Wales nd Northern Ireland. Additional nancial assistance will enable boys' id girls' clubs and many organisa- one to extend their activities. laying fields, gymnasiums and equipment for games, headquarters or youth centres, camping equip- ent, and many other things are reded.
Contributions to the fund con- tinue to pour in to St. James' Palace where every day for weeks past the Prince of Wales has spent much of his time in its organisation. The total has increased to such ex- tent that there are hopes that the frat million pounds will have been renched next week.
The sale of Monday's birthday emblems has been organised by voluntary workers throughout the London area, and one and a half million of them have been specially made by the British Legion Poppy Factory-British Wireless.
EXTENDING AIRWAYS
U.S. AND NETHERLANDS INDIES LINK
Amsterdam, May 17. The United States and the Netherlands Indies may, shortly be connected by air lines.
near
This probability of the future was forecnat, in an exclusive interview with the United Press, by Hen Albert Plesman, managing director of the Royal Dutch Air- lines, (K.L.M.)
"Every effort is being innde," Hen Plesman said, "to have the airdromes at Banjarraussin;-Balt papen and Tarakan, In Bernco, ready by 1936. We will then be in a position to extend our line to the Philippines. By that time the United States trans-Pacifle air route from California to Hawaii, Midway laland, Guam and Manila undoubtedly will be operating. If the hoped-for co-operation bo- tween the United States and Hol land can be realised, the Americans thon will have an air connection with the tropical islands of the Netherland Indies.
From June 12 onwards, the weekly service from Amsterdam to Batayin will be made à twice weekly service, maintained by Douglas planes. Plesman revealed, how- over, that the 'Douglas-machines, after about two years service, are to be replaced by larger and faster Fokker type 40 airplanes with seating accommodation, for thirty passengere.
Plekman hoped that certain dic- Aculties with the Australian âu- thorities might be overcomo "allow- ing the R.LM. to extend thetr Amsterdam-Bataviniline to Aug. trália: We are quite ready for it?
