Following their five-wicket defeat by Middlesex in their first match of the season, Lancashire, last year's champions, suffered yet another defeat in the County Cricket Championship when they visited. Leicester, George being beaten by Leicestershire by 129 runs. Geary, the former Test bowler, was greatly instrumental in causing the collapse of the champions in their second innings which realised only 73 runs.
