SOUTH AFRICAN CRICKETERS IN ENGLAND

REVIEW OF TEAM'S PROSPECTS

Weakness If Any Exists In Visitors Attack

(By R. Abbit)

Cricket has been played in South Africa for nearly a hundred years, but in the vast majority of cases the game is played upon matting. Naturally this has always been A great handicap to the South African players when they go over to play on our grasa wickets. But in recent years there has been a tendency to introduce turf on many grounds, especially in the Cape and Natal provinces, and.. only a short while ago came the news that the Wanderers Club at Johannesburg has decided to turf their famous ground where many a Test match has been played. The result of this is that the present team is made up of players who had much more experience of grass wickets than their fathers-(literally, in one case)—had. This is, of course, a great advantage.
