HONGKONG DOLLAR GOES HALFPENNY HIGHER

The strength of silver in London has resulted in a further advance of a halfpenny in the Hongkong dollar rate and is keeping the Shanghai foreign exchange market very strong. The local rate to-day is 2s. 6d.

London reports the market very firm, with renewed buying by Indian Bazaars and speculators and a reluctance on the part of silver holders to part with their stocks. The apprehension of speculators that America might abandon her silver programme has been largely dispelled and the demand continues.
