MEMEL SITUATION

LITHUANIA REPLIES TO THE THREE POWERS' NOTE

London, May 6. The Lithuanian Government's reply to the joint communication which, in accordance with the de- cision reached at Strean, Wan 10- cently presented to that Govern- ment on behalf of Great Britain, France and Italy, was yesterday handed to the representatives in Kovno of these Powers.

BRAWL RESULTS IN DEATH OF FRUIT HAWKER

On its arrival in Hongkong from Canton shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday the Canton steamer Tal Shan was met by a party of police an the result of a wireless messago stat- ing that a passenger had been killed in a fight on board the ship.

The deceased, a 30-year-old male aurnamed Mo, is stated to be a fruit hawker. At the time of his death he travelling on the ship as a steerage passenger.

It appears that the ship left Canton for Hongkong shortly after 4 p.m. and when in the vicinity of Whampoa the man became involved in a brawl and received injuries which he succumbed during the journey.

It is alloged that the man stopped on the foot of 'n fruit-seller, and an argument arose which soon developed into a brow. In the course of the brawl it is alleged that a bottle was used as a weapon, with fatal results.

Twenty-five men, alleged to have been involved in the brawl, were do- tained by the police for questioning.
