London, May 1.

Plans for the considerable and immediate expan- sion of Great Britain's air strength are expected to be announced in the House of Commons to-morrow when the Prime Minister, Mr. Ramsay MacDonald, opens the Foreign Affairs Debate.

It is understood that Mr. MacDonald will repeat the pledge given by Mr. Stanley Baldwin, last November, that Great Britain would in no circumstances accept air inferiority to Germany. And in view of the change in the German position since that pledge was given, very rapid expansion of the British flying fleet strength is expected.

The necessity for a supplemen- tary estimate of £5,000,000 for the purpose of building the additional machines for the expanding force, is being mentioned.

A pronouncement is also anti- cipated on the problem enused by the fact that the number of British aircraft manufacturers is very limited, which is reported to bo cousing concern in Government quarters. It is felt, It seems, that in the event of an emergency, Britain is not equipped to rush the construction of an àir flect to the same extent ns are some of her neighbourn.-Reuter.
