A case of giving misleading in- formation to the police came before Mr. E. 1. Wynne-Jones at the Kow- loon Police Court this morning when Li You, unemployed, was charged with theft of a suit of clothing and $1.45 from 796 Nathan Road, necond floor, and giving mis- leading information to Principal Chinese Detective Schk Tui to the effect that Tam Tit-kong had stolen the articles.

The complainant was Shum Tun, 21, a student of 700 Nathan Road. When charged, the defendant said: "I myself did not sleal. My friend, Wong, stole and pawned them and gave me the ticket to plant in the Jacket pocket of Tam. I was also instructed to get som ona-to-arreat him.My friend would go to Canion and return later with money to start business with me, provided I succeeded in carry- Ing out his instructions. I was to any, if required to give evidence, that the clothing was stolen from 796 Nathan Rond, second floor, and that there was $1.45 in it."

Detective-Sergeant Allen stated there was no evidence against the defondant on the charge of theft, and it was necordingly withdrawn. Defendant admitted a previous conviction Inst year for four charges of theft, two of the com. plainants being Dr. J. H. McElney and Llaut. Wood, R. N.

On the charge of giving mis- leading information the Maxis- trate passed sentence of three months hard labour and recom- mended the defendant for banlah- ment.
