There are a lot of people who think the worst crime in bridge is to trump your partner's "ace. Bridge is a strange game; the thing you are taught not to do on one hand is just the thing you should do on the next hand,

For example, to defeat to-day's | hand, East has to trump his part- ner's ace.

The Play

In response to his partner's din-! mond bid, Enst opened the king of diamonds, and when it hold, he continued with the three, which Weat won with the queen. The ace of diamonds came next and now, if East was a meck little partner, he would probably dis- card a spade. The contract would then be made, because West would be forced to make a losing lead.

If he led a spade, North. would make two spade tricks, and if he led a diamond, the declarer would ruff and discard the losing spade from dummy. And if a club were led, two clubs could he established for discards.

However, if East were smart, instead of discarding a spade, he would trump his partner'a ace, so as to be able to return a spade.
