Pierre Renaudel was born at Moigny, Seine Inforleure, in De- cember 1871. He was originally a veterinary surgeon, but in 1800 began to interest himself in the Socialist movement and later bo camo assistant editor of the Humanite under Jaures, after whose death he edited the paper until October 1918.

Subsequently, he ran the week- ly periodical La Vie Sociale which however, eventually coased pub. lication. He also contributed to several other papers. From 1914 onwards, Renaudel sat in the Chamber as deputy for the War Department. Daring and after the
