Manila, Feb. 10. The new Philippine constitution, written by a popular convention af- ter six months of deliberation, Indicated that three and one-half decades of American influence had served to implant thoroughly in the Filipino people the ideals of democracy and individual freedom evolved in the United States as an Inheritance from old Magna Carta. Significant also of the long-con- tact of the Philippines with the Occident world was the fact that the convention invoked the "ald of Divine providence" in the preamble of constitution of the only Chris- tian nation in the Far East. Christianity was brought here by the Spaniards four centuries ago.

Although different in composi- tion, and considerably more detailed In its assignment of various powers and functions, the Philippine con- stitution nevertheless is strikingly similar to that of the United States.
