It's been said before and, undoubtedly, will be sald again, but January certainly is the month when every girl ought to have a gay slik frock. It will give her entire wardrobe a lift--not mention her spirits and, if wlacly chosen, can be worn all through the spring season, too.
Smooth crepes vie for honours with the rough enta. However, if you decide on a crinkled or some other variety of rough silk, be sure that it really is extremely rough. If it's supposed to be

flat, make sure that it is sleek. The smartest fabrics are definitely one thing or another- there's no happy, but uninteresting, medium.
The colours, of course, are flamboyant. All the old vivid shades, rød, green, electric blue, are in evidence. However, off-shades and subtle tones are more popular and, we might add, more flatter- ing.
Gold and dusty yellows, for instance, are good with every skin as well as with any fur or far-
trimmed cost. Soft greens, rose, lavenders and
'Hghter blues are sure to prove an early spring tonic. They do help to make a drab winter seem brighter.
There's a new colour, too. Bitter orange, it's called-and a more intriguing shade you won't Good with black or brown accessories, it has a warm, mellow glow bout it.

Speaking of accessories, they, too, can lift a bedraggled winter wardrobe out of an Interesting rut. The girl who wears new gloves, a new hat and some smart shoes just can't be unhappy about her clothes-particularly if she has on a pair of the shoes that have recently made an appearance on the market for mid- winter wear.
Most of them are made of plain kid or patent leather, trimmed in contrasting tone. As matter of fact, very fow new pamps and slippers are plain. You'll see lovely brown ones, trimmed with beige; black, piped and banded with gray; cud gray, finished with touches of black.
Perforations are smart. Heels are about the rame, although it's possible to get good-looking shoes with fairly low and medium heels an woll ná very high ones,
