U.S. SENATE BLOCKS ADHERENCE
MINORITY EFFECTUALLY DELAYS RATIFICATION
(By Telegraph. Copyright, Telegraphia Messages Ordinance, 1994. Received Jan. 30, 8,10 a.m.)..
Washington, Jan. 29,
The Senate to-day failed to ratify the resolution which would have cleared the way for America's adherence to the World Court of International Justice at the Hague. The necessary. two-thirds majority could not be secured. The voting was: for 52, against 36.
The defeat of the Administration's resolution was due to the same irreconcilable group, led by Senators Johnson and Borah, which kept the United States out of the League of Nations in 1920.
It is reported that Senate leaders of the opposition camp received more than 75,000 telegrams from all parts of the United States urging the Senate to reject the resolution.
