PRINCE OTTO TO RULE AUSTRIA?

HEIMWEHR SUPPORT FOR RESTORATION

MONARCHIST CAMPAIGN GETS UNDER WAY

(By Telegraph. Copyright, Telegraphic Messages Ordinance, 1894. Received, Jan. 21, 8 a.m.)

Vienna, Jan. 20.

Prince von Starhemberg, Vice-Chancellor of Austria, whose power is the weightiest of any in- dividual's within the state. since he is the leader and hero of the Heimwehr, has declared himself definitely in favour of restoration of the monarchy.

The attitude of Prince von Starhemberg towards the proposed restoration has heretofore been somewhat doubtful, and though it was known that he was sympathetic to the cause of Prince Otto, heir to the throne of the Hapsburgs, it was not certain that he believed in the usefulness of an immediate re-establish- ment of a monarchy.

The declaration to-day by Prince von Starhomberg, made while ad- dressing his Heutenants in the Heimwehr, that he realised the restoration Was a necesally for Austrian and European peace, sent the hopes of the royalists soaring. There was wild rejoicing among the people of the loyalist ranks to-night.

Prince van Starhemberg warned the Legitimists not to be in too much of a hurry, however, and em phasised that the Heimwehr would docide when Prince Otto should come to the throne of his fathers. -United Press.

IMPORTS FROM INDIA AT

...VANISHING POINT

The United States will be forced to purchase silver from the big producing countries, and cannot longer count upon obtaining supplies of bullion from the nations whose monetary standard is silver, such as India and China, observers now declare. The American imports from Mexico led all others last week, and those from Hongkong, amounting to U.S.$276,000, were only about one quarter of the Mexican contribution.

There has been a sharp decline in American domestic production of silver. Representative Dies and Representative Scrugham have put forward plans calculated to assist the mining industry and increase the output of metals,

The official report of the Department of Commerce 'on silver importa into the United States for the week ended January 11 goes far towards confirming the opinion that the United States in the future must depend for silver imports on silver-producing countries, rather than on those which use ever as their monetary stand- ard.

This is a point brought out by Mr. Elmer C. Walzer, financial editor of the United Press, In his comment on the official report and on previous despatches con- cerning the United States' silver purchasing programme.
