The fish trade, with a view to dispelling much of the present con- fusion, is seeking the advice and collaboration of the Ministry of Fisherios in standardising the popular titles of some of our common food fishes. That in this Bome respect. there is room for systematisation there can be doubt. Solo, for example, is at present a very lax term and subject. to endless variations. Thus to the witch, a somewhat. inferior flatfish, the term "torbay sole" is commonly appiled in the fish trade; whilat Ita close relative the scarcely more attractive megrime passes as "sole," "brill," or "turbot.
