The amazing revelation that the armament manu- facturing firm of Dupont de Nemours had arranged with the United States War Department in 1922 to obtain from the army reservo stocks 160,000 rounds of ammunition to, sell to Japan, was made at the Senate Arms Inquiry to-day.
A letter from the files of the Du Pont company contained this information, and it stated that though the procedure was not "quite regular" it was not contrary to army regulations.

A representative of the firm stated that when the LEAGUE'S War Department realised that Japan could get these WORK war materials from England "they were glad to help us manufacturers."
Another letter, dated 1932, also taken from the Du Pont files, stated that the Navy Department considered it not only permissible but desirable that American firms should sell equip- ment and material to Japan. This opinion was based on the fact that it was desirable that the Navy should be informed about the nature and amount of the Japanese purchases, which information would be lacking if the purchases were made in Europe-Reuter.
