DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW * RESIDENTIAL ÁREA:

The development of Stanley A8 A residential area was referred to at a meeting of the Sanitary Board yesterday, when a retail market for the village was considered.

Pursmat to notice, the Chairman (Mr. it. A. D. Forrest) moved:

That in the opinion of the Board a recommendation should be forwarded to Government för the reservation of a site for & retail market of about 16 stalls in the vicinity of Stanley Village, with around adjacent for exten. sion.

The Chairman explained that the reason was that Stanley had recent ly devoloped us a residential area. A new building scheme was partly advanced, and would be revived at There was also ut any moment. the present time a large population in that 'area, with large numbers of workmen employed on the new Gaol site, and in connection with extensive building works being car ried out there. ACTIVITIES FOR PRESENT MONTH ANNOUNCED

The Kindergarten section, of the Hongkong Teachers' Association will meet at the Garrison School, Garden Road, on Wednesday. November 14, when the subject for discussion. will be "Handwork.”

The Association will meet at St. Joseph's College, Kennedy Road, on November 15, when Professor L. Forster will deliver his presidential address on the subject "The bins towards the practical in education."

The English and Language noe- tion will meet at the Garrison School on November 19, at 5 p.m. when Mr. A. B. Reynolds, B.A., will speak on "Basic English": while the Mathematics and Science see- tion will meet at King's College on November 22, at the same hour, when the speaker will be Mr. H. H. Beddow, B.sc, who will open a dis- cussion on

the "Teaching of Elementary Mathematics."

The Art nection of the Associa tion will meet on December 11 at 5.15 p.m. in the Sanitary Board Room, when the speaker will be Mr. Konya. His subject is: "Avolled Art."
