CONVENT BAZAAR.

ANNUAL APPEAL FOR SUP. PORT OF ORPHANS

An appeal for financial support| for the charitable and philanthro- plc work carried out by the Various Institutes of the Italian Convent, has been made in con- nection with the two-day. bazaar and fete which was opened on Saturday at the Convent at Calno Road, and continued yesterday,

It is pointed out that nurt from the educational work at the Convent, the Canossian Slatera have to maintain orphanages at Wanchai, Shaukiwan, West Point, lunghom. Aberdeen, Walchow and Namtue. A Poor School has

also been opened at Mosque Street, while an average of 200 bables and foundlinks are being cared for very day at the Home at West Polut. For this large number of children who would otherwise have been abandoned if not re- eeived into these homes, almost the only means for securlig public support is the bazaar and Bale of work held at the time every year.

The opening ceremony on Satur- day was performed by Mrs. do Martin, the wife of Mr. G. P. de Accompanied by Mgr. Martin. Henry Valtorta and the Superioress, Rov, Mother, Marti- nula, Mrs. de Martin cut a while ribbon across the entrance to the the School Hall and declared bazaar open.

Inalde the hall, as in former years, a profusion of goods was attractively laid out different atails. Raffies, lucky dips, and were the means by cheap sales

which it was hoped to dispose or all these articles, which in- eluded dainty pieces of needlework by the Sisters and their charges.
