A new "war" has broken out in Hollywood, The CRUSC In the amazing success of the five-year- old child star, Shirley Temple, in her first two filma, "Girl in Pawn" and "Baby Take a Bow!"
During the past two months Shirley Temple has become the
cinema sensation of America. In two weeks, "Baby Take a BowP carned £15,000 at n New York theatre, and in three weeks, niso in New York,-"Girl in Pawn" earned £19,000.
These are phenomenal sunumer Agures, and it seems as if the film world after 14 years of waiting has dincovered a child star with the same degree of popular appeal an Jackie Coogan, who is reputed to have earned £600,000 in the course of his career as a child actor.
Hitherto Shirley Temple has been paid 30 a week. The war being waged at the moment (says a Daily Mail correspondent) in to decide whether she will be paid £200 or £500 a week.
The two combatants are Fox Films and Mr. George Temple, who is the father of the star and the manager of a bank in Los Angeles,
Fox Films, while admitting that the child has been a phenomenal success, cinim that part of that success is due to their own efforts, and maintain that their offor to raise the salary of Shirley Templa from £30 to £200 a week should satisfy all the parties concerned.
