Unlike the atormy labour move. ment in the United States, tho British trade unions are tor peaco at any price during this slage of world recovery.

The total number of working days loat by strikes and lockouts In Great Britåls during 1938 was only 1,070,000 compared with 6,490,000 in 1982 and 8,200,000 In. 1920. This is a definite policy, though discussed sparingly in the British labour press.

It appears, to be based on the recognition of two strategic points. One is that with the prevailing heavy unemployment, strikes would be risky in any but the most skilled and highly organized trades. And the other point is that membership in British trade unions has declined from 6,516,000 in 1920-their penk year-to around 3,400,000 in 1933.
