FILMLAND NEWS

Teaching Young How to Become a Star

SCHOOL FOR ACTORS

Film producers in America are viewing with increasing alarm the disappearing of legitimate slock companies and road shows, and the mounting numbers of theatres which are closing their doors, They are wondering where the future flm stars are coming from, and most of them have come to the conclusion that the Alma will have to develop their own talent.

Paramount has opened a cinema school of its own, where the younger contract actors and actresses, as woll as the more promising young "bit" players, are taught about film acting at first hand,

Phyllia Loughton, of Mancheg ter, who is on contract with Paramount, is the teacher. She also conches players during the Alming of the actual pictures.

In her school are Ida Lupino, Toby Wing, Clara Lou Sheridan. Colin Tapley, Randolph Scott, Julian Madison, Howard Wilson, Alfred Delcambre, and Eldred Tidbury.

Film companies have discovered tint even the best of stage stars must be taught a great deal about films before they actually "get over" on the screen, and as the result, most of Paramount's re- craits from Broadway spend some time at the school.
