SWOOPING WITH TERRIFYING SUDDENNESS, THE WORST TYPHOON FOR FIFTEEN YEARS STRUCK MANILA AT APPROXI- MATELY 1.30 A.M. THIS MORNING. AT LEAST NINE VESSELS HAVE BEEN DRIVEN ASHORE, TWO OF THEM BIG OCEAN STEAMERS, THE BRITISH-OWNED GLENOGLE AND THE AMERI- CAN, GERTRUDE KELLOGG.
