Witness stated that the defendant's wife was sick and she visited her on October 3. Defendant was not homo at the time. On sitting down in the living room, she saw a vase which she recognised as being one which she had bought in Japan. The vase the had been placed. In one of boarder's rooms. The boarder had left and the room was 'now vacant, but she had not noticed the vase was missing.

Saw Her Property,

On a shelf she saw a lo. of cups and saucers, which she recognised as being the sel aho used at Fanling. They had been bought by her from Japanese store Harbour Rond. The cups and saucers were not used At the hotel, and had been put away last March, in a wooden box which was kept in the backyard,

Witness then went to the Water Police Station and had a warrant taken out, and was also present at the search, which took place the same day. During the search Detec- Live Sergeant Dovics produced A purao belonging to witneRN, parse contained a locket in which Who a photo of her husband and

At the time of the search, witness spoke to the defendant in industnal And he admitted that the article belanged to witness.

At this stage his Worship remark- ed that the identifcution of the locket ly witness was a very strong point in the evidence against defendant. TT*w*£LJc ༩༥ then adjourned for neveral minutes to shablo r. D'Almada to consult with his client.

On resuming, further evidence was given by Mr. Bower, manager of the Palace Hotel, Mr. Beach, an overscer of the Public Works Department, and Lal King a "Bay" employed at the Palace Hotel. These witnesses alo dentified articles which ind

been stolen from them.

Mr. D'Almada reserved his cross- examination, and the case was nd- journed to Tuesday next.
