Velvet' And Lace

BREAKING BARRIER

Fourteon British talking pit- tures are to be shown on Broadway during the coming season.

This represents the most sensa- tlonal success yet achieved by the British film industry in the United States, and ls all the more remark able since the talking, pletures to be shown are all the product of one British organisation:

The contracts which have been signed in respect of these talking pictures are the first results of the decision of C. M. Woolf, managing director of the Gaumont-British Corporation, to mako arrange- ments for the release througout the United States of the produc- tlons of the studios at Shepherd's Bush and Islington.

Two of the most Important? theatres in New York, the Roxy Cinema and the music hall, Radio City, have undertaken to show the pictures.

On October 4 the Radio City) will present "Jew Sues," the most exponsive film ever made at Shop- herd's Bush. This picture will be shown simultaneously in Toronto and in London.

"Chu Chin Chow" will open, at| the Roxy on the following day.

THE OTHER CHOICES.

The programme consisted of compositions by Wagner, Mux Reger, and Beethoven. The very Arst Item, the overture to the Flying Dutchman, evoked tromen- dous applause on the part of the large audience. The Erda acene from "The Rhinegold" was magni- ficently interpreted by Margarete LY6035. Klose, of the Berlin State Opera.

Reger's "An die Hoffnung", composed for contralto with or chestra accompaniment, one of the finest and most inspired works of the composer, had so far been practically unknown in Paris, according to the Introductory words spoken by the announcer, so that it may be expected that the fino brilliant rendering of this piece has brought about a change in this respect.

The admirable tone of the orchestra made a deep Impression
