VERDICT OF DEATH BY

· MISADVENTURE

The third inquest the week was brought to a cions yesterday, when a verdict of donth by misadventure was returned by the Jury, at an Inquiry conducted by Mr. E. I. Wynne-Jones, at the Kowloon Magic- tracy, into the death of a Chinese married woman, Leung Mul, 88 years of age, who was knocked down by motor. ear No. 601, at Cheung Sha Wan on September 19

The Jury comprised Mesara. R. J. Shrigley (Foreman). L D. Fernandes and H. A. do Figueiredo.

Dr. P. F. S. Court, of the Kow- loon Hospital, said that on September 19 at 5.80 p.m. a Chinese female was admitted to the hospital. She was in a moribund condition, and died at 9.30 p.m. A post mortem examina tion was held the next day.

External injuries to the body were, bruises and abrasions, and lacera- Lions. The Internal injuries found were, ribs number two to eight wore fractured, in line with the right armpit. There was blood in the chest cavity and the liver was rup- tured. The right kidney was blue and thero was much blood in the abdominal cavity; and there was some braising over the left side of the brain.

With the exception of slight con. gestion of the right lung, the other Death organs were quite normal: was caused by fracture of the ribs,. ruptured liver and haemorrhage.

The wounds were consistent with being dragged over the ground, ex- cepting those on the left and right leg, where the wheel of a car passed over. The fracture of the ribs aug- gested pressure-of some sort and not A blow.

Body Identified,

Po Svo testified to identifying the body, as being her daughter-in-law, Leung Mul. The body was also identialed by the driver of the car, Mr. V. H. Freeman, as the Chinese female knocked down by him..

Inspector Shafinin of the Sham- thulpo Polleo. Station in the course of his evidenco stated that on Sep- tember 19, at 5 p.m., he was informed that an accident had occurred on Castle Peak Road. He immediately went to the scene and outside tousO No. 822, he saw car No. 601, about nix feet from the curb. The front wheels were turned toward the curb: at an anglo of about 46 degrees, Lying on her beck before the ear was a Chinese woman. Sho was conscious, and appeared to be in considerable pain.

In the arms of a coolic Was a small child, apparently unconscious. Sitting against the wall of house No. 822 was another Chinese female, who was also injured.

About two minutes after his arrival, the driver of the car, Mr. V. H. Freeman, appeared. The child and the infared woman, were lifted (Continued on Page 7.)
