Mr. Theodore Dreiser himself has been engaged by a newspaper to report the proceedings of a murder trial here which has been given wide publicity as the "American Tragedy Case," bo- cause of its similarity to the plot of Dreiser's novel of the same

name.

It is alleged that the 23-year- old accused, Robert Edwards, murdered his sweetheart. Freda McKechnie, who was expecting a child, while they were swimming in a lake, so that he would be

irce to marry another woman.

Edwards has pleaded not guilty and his counsel is maintaining that his "confession" was untrue and obtained under duress.

The jurors were selected Mon- day and evidence will be given os October 2-Renter.
