Y.M.C.A. LITERARY AND DEBATING

Season's Programine Discussed

• The Arst meeting of the Y.M.CA. Literary and Debating Society to discuss the progranime for the now Benson WIls held yesterday under the chairmanship of Mr. P. S. Cassidy, other mom- bers present being Dr, E, L. Allen, Dr. 1. D. Matthews, Messrs. I. T. Price, E. F. Selk, A. W. Ingram and S. A. Gray,

After careful deliberation It was decided to start the season October with the first of a series of popular lectures, the various subjecta, which will Include travel, archarology, Chinese art. medicine, etc., to be dealt with hy local speakers who are authorities on the subjects.

DEBATE IN NOVEMBER.

The first debate will be held in the first week in November, the probable motion being "That in- ternational sporting contests are imperllling international friend- ship." Later in the season it in hoped to elage another Ladies' v. Men's debate, on lines sinullar to those which proved so SUCIÓPA- 'ful two years ago.

The Fireside Discussions which have proved such a popular fea- ture during the last two or three winters, will be continued starting from the end of October. Sub- jects with a good "Talking Point" and conducive to discussion will be selected, and an these are closed meetings for members only, free expression of opinion will again be invited.

There is every indication that the Literary and Debating section

of the Y.M.C.A., in to enjoy a highly successful winter. โป
