Pinafore Frock For A
Small Girl.
This neat pinafore frock han been specially designed with the idea of helping busy mothers to make practical dressea for their small daughters, Almost any kind of material may be used. Fine sorgo or gabardine is ` aμg“, gested for school wear, while plain or check gingham will be admirable if the frock is to be worn on holidays. A little “blouse of spot muslin or pretty. flowered, voile should be worn bencath, the blouso having long or short sleeves as desired.
You will need about one and
a half yards of forty-inchi material for a girl of eight; a little less if the material is over forty inches.
Cut out the sections of the dreas as shown in the diagram, making paper patterna firat. Tack patterns, try on, and cut the material by them, Join the shoulder and side seams of the bydles, then sew the four akiri seama. Turn up the raw edge of the bodice, snip the part round the tab to make it lie flat, tack bodice to skirt, try on, and, if it fits correctly, machine bodice and skirt to- gether. Finish the seam inside with bids binding. Turn in neck edges and bind these also.
You CE% add sleeves or epaulettes if you wish. The sketch shows the frock with epaulettes, which are merely small shaped frills sewn into the armholes, the inside scame bound with bias binding.
Turn up a good hem on the skirt, and if you use serge or gabardine press under a damp cloth.

AMERICA HAS BARMAIDS
"Degrading" Develop- ment Since Repeal
"Before Prohibition only mon were allowed to serve in the bars In the United States, but now. wo have barmaids, and that is only one of the degrading things that have followed the repeal of Pro- hibition."
This statement was made by Mrs. Marion Smith, an American woman delegate at the Internation- al Congress on Alcoholism, at the Imperial Institute In London.
Visitors from other countries were curious to learn why America had been lost to the temperance cause. American delegates stress- ed the point that less than a quarter of the people voted on the question, and only 20 per cent., they declared, voted for
ropeal.
In their opinion, however, tho fight was not lost permanently.
Since repeal, it was otatod, bootlegging had Increased, more
lelt liquor was being sold than legal, and temperance observora wore convinced that eventually the country would voto Itself "dry" agala.

GEORGE RAFT IN A "DUEL".
A hundred Hollywood film actors and actresses were the audience that watched a bout of flaticuffs between George Raft, the film star, and a man named Sam Satz.
Sam Satz had made some rude remarks about George Raft's "lifted" face (he has recently had his nose and an ear remodelled) when the film actor entered a cafe. The two adjourned to a nearby parking-place and fought for ten minutes, George Raft scoring four knock-down before the pair were separated by a policeman. No arresta were made, and neither of the combatants wer seriously damaged.
There were a number of not- abilities in the audience, including Carole Lombard, Judith Allen, June Collyer,. and. Jack Haley. EDDIE CANTOR ON "IMMORAL" FILMS,
Here are the points of viow of a well-known actor and a well-known producer on the American chur- ches "deaner filma" campaign:- Eddie Cantor, the screen actor, has no desire to be associated with an immoral picture, but there are not half a dozen players in Holly- wood with enough authority to szy the that they will or will not take part.

Lead because they agree with the following five points-
1. Powerful, rich, dynamic tone.
2. Perfect Intonation, 3. Exquisito finish.
4. Unaffected by woather, water

5. Will not crack or warp with
ordinary care,
They are ideal for the beginner. It is a great mistake to buy a cheap musical Instrument of any kind for a beginner. NOT ONLY DO THE POOR TONES OF A POOR INSTRUMENT TEND TO LESSEN THE PUPIL'S MUSICAL PERCEP- TION BUT THERE IS NO TIME WHEN INSPIRATION IS MORE NEEDED THAN WHILE LEARN- ING TO PLAY,
To inspire the highest efforts it is essential to provide an instrument worthy of admiration and care.
