London, Aug, 23. Northants startled English county cricket circles to-day by beating Hampshire by an inn- ings and 98 runs in the course of two days play. This is Northants second victory of the season, but it ap- pears to have come too late tr lift the team out of the bottom position of the championship table.

The victory was largely the work of two bowlers, Partridge | and Cox. The former took 6 for 20 and dismissed Hampshire in their first knock for 107, while Cox captured 5 for 72 when Hamp shire, following-on, werò all out for 164.

Northants, batting first com-1 piled 360.

LEICESTER ALSO.

Nolts were subjected to another heavy defent, when against Loices- ter they were dismissed for 168 and 186 and lost by an innings

and 106 runs.

Leicester batted freely in first occupation of the wicket, finally totaling 309, to which Armstrong contributed 117.

Marlow's clover bowling was too much for Notts in their first reply. He took 6 for 68 and sent Notts back for 168. Following on they did even worse and were all out for 135.--Router. Civil Service C.C.
