“Night | Birds," coming to the Alhambra Theatro to-morrow, is the atory of the tracking of an under world killer, and is the last picture Starring Jameson Thomas to be made In this country before he "snapped up" by the Americans and went to Hollywood. Others in the cast of this picture include Muriel Angelus, an excellent "And" for the "talkies"-aho also appeared in "Sons Of Guns" at the London Hippodromo Jack Raine, Eve Gray and Franklyn Bellamy. The story opens with robbery at a socluty dinner party by a group of criminals led by "Flash Jack," whose knife-throwing is ac- curate and deadly. There is a murder, and Scotland Yard quickly on the job. A detective tracks the knife-thrower to a night club, and makes the acquaintance of his girl friend. The murder of an Informer at the club gives him a fresh clue, and after some exciting in- cidents the criminal is caught,

CROWN LAND BOUGHT FOR HOUSE BUILDING
An action concerning the purchase of Crown property to the value of over $220,000 was before the Chief Justice Mr. A. D. A. MacGregor, yesterday afternoon.
Plaintiff was Loko Yuen-cheong, merchant, of 18 Bonham Strand East, represented by Mr. 11. G. Mincnamara, instructed by Mr. H. K. Hung of Mesars, Deacons.
Defendants who did not appear, Fedder Building, and La Tat-sam werg Tone Po-kau, draughtsman, of merchant, of 102 Queen's Road Cen- trai.
A declaration was sought in respecti held by the three parties de tenants of parcels of ground at Kowloon, in common, that they wore under charge to plaintiff to the value of $220,827 and other sums including interest. - Plaintiff, also applied for: 5 Balo of property; an account to be taken between plaintif and defon- dante relating to the premises, and payment of the amount found to be deo.
Referring to tho statement of claim, Mr. Macnamara said that in 1931, the parties purchased leasehold property from the Government of Hongkong, the total cost boing $107,000, of which plaintiff contri- buted four-tenths and each of the defondants three-tenths. Tong Fo kau paid for his share, but La Tat sam, the paternal uncle of plaintiff, borrowed his share from plaintir. In December of that year, an agreement was drawn up, providing for develop- mont of the land by the building of houses additional parties to the agree ment being Kom Tat-chuen und Wong Yuon-shan who, however, contributed nothing and were not interested in the present action. Taken from the pages of Will James' best seller "Smoky", Fox Film's release bearing the same title, comes to the Oriental Theatre on Sun- day and Monday. Irene Bentley and Victor Jory have the romantic leads, while Will James is cast, in a prom inent role. "Smoky" is the story of a horse whosn vicinus hatred of men brands him n killer. During the course of his life, he befriends only one man, the man that has tamed and understood him. The friendship of the man and animal is so great, that when "Smoky" in stolen, his friend - put»-everything aside. In-the-years- that follow, 45moky" attains the reputation of the famous "cougar" of the rodeos, and then sinks to the depths of junk man's cart horse. The film is said to portray the West with all its panoramile beauty, and to. depict with astounding realian the colourful vigour of the rodeos.

To-day at the King's Theatre Fox Film presents its biggest musical pro- duction of the new year, "Stand Up and Cheer," produced by Winfield Shochon in association with Lew Brown. It fa a magnificent show packed with stara, grand music and spectacular revues. Created against a búckground of ever- changing scenes and decorated with Invish splendour, are five breath- taking revues. Among the many stars that lend their fine talents to the fim, are Worner Baxter, Madge Evana, James Dunn, Ralph Morgan, Shirley Temple, Arthur Byron, Jobn Blacs, Stepin Fetchit and Nigel Bruce. Supporting the splendid work of these performers is an array of radio and stage personalities among whom ore Sylvia Froon, "Aunt Jemima", Mitekell and Durant and Nick Foran. Director Hamilton Mac- Fadden did n praiseworthy jab from the original story idea suggested by Will Rogers and Philip Klein, Sanimy Lec' staged the dance numbers to Lew Brown's "Our Last Night Together", Baby Take A Boy", "I'm Laughing" "Broadway's Gone fiil Billy" and "Out of the Red".
